Farewell Inklet SALE!

Trams & Bicycles Tee in Apple Jack (photograph by Rebekah Lyn)

It's time to say farewell to our beloved little Inklet label! It's a little bit sad, but not too sad because we're heading off to do new and exciting things. Dana, our co-conspirator and production-manager-extraordinaire is in the process of setting up a hair and make-up salon on Errol St in North Melbourne with her friend Poppy. How exciting is that! Dana's other brand Lady Day is growing in leaps and bounds, so this is such a fantastic move for her. And North Melbourne is such a great area to work and/or live. Congrats Dana & Poppy!

The sale is on in our shop right now for the next week or so. Once these items are gone they're gone for good! You'll still be able to find our range with select stockists around Melbourne but we are selling through all our studio/online shop stock. So head on over and snap up a little piece of organic, local and ethical cuteness before it's all gone :)

4th birthday thank you!

The print demo about to begin - photo by Terence Ong

Just a quick thank you to everyone who came to the studio last Saturday to help celebrate our 4th birthday!! Copious sandwiches and cupcakes were consumed and enjoyed by all - big thanks to those visitors who were roped into helping with our last minute sandwich making effort!

Also big thanks to the lovely Terence (and his gorgeous little family) for taking such lovely pics from the day - so nice to have these memories captured.

A case of mono

Monochrome, timber & mustard - experimenting with styling

Colour is everywhere right now. In all the stores and on all the blogs. And as much as we appreciate these splashes of brightness, Teegs and I still much prefer a bit of monochrome. Especially when it's coupled with warm timber tones and a bit of mustard! It's not very "summer" I know, but we love it all the same.

The other thing I've been enjoying is playing around with styling. I've always enjoyed photography and making nice interior spaces, but I've never actually tried to "style" a shoot. I have to say at this point: THIS IS NOT HOW MY HOME LOOKS AT ALL. You'd actually laugh if you could see what's behind the camera in this shot - all our usual living room furniture and things crammed up against the opposite wall, my house mates relegated to armchairs pushed into the corners to eat their dinner and read their books.

Monochrome, timber & mustard - experimenting with styling (circle shelf by Bride & Wolfe, rug by Armadillo & Co)

I had quite a lot of fun setting up this shoot, and can't wait to do it again! Of course, all the textiles in this shot are available in our shop, and you can buy the finished cushions if you don't feel like making them yourselves!

Hey everyone, we are super excited to celebrate the fact that our baby (I&S) is turning 4! FOUR!!

So to help us celebrate, please come for tea & cupcakes this Saturday the 13th from 11am until 2pm at I&S HQ!

There will be the usual print demo, chats, fabric for sale, but this time with ADDED MR NICE GUY CUPCAKES!! Yay!

Hope to see you there!

Make ALL THE things

It's getting to that time of year when folks are starting to think about gifts for their loved ones, and the best kind of gift is one that you made yourself, right? Especially with fabric that is locally and ethically made and all that good shiz.

If you think like we do, then you'll appreciate the new things we've popped in the shop to assist your creative endeavours!

Sew your own cushion kit + printed fabric of your choice

These cushion kits always seem to sell like hotcakes at our Open Studio events, so we finally got around to listing them in our online shop! The kit includes plain backing fabric, a heavy duty invisible zip and super easy to follow instructions. You can choose any printed fabric from our shop to match.

Three fabric bundle - blues & greens

We've made 5 different colourways of these bundles, each featuring three 45x45cm "fat quarter" pieces. Perfect for cushions or quilting or whatever sewing project takes your fancy.

Three fabric bundle - rust

Three fabric bundle - greys

And last but not least...

Bundle of offcuts

Bundles of offcuts! Always super popular in our studio but kind of hard to list online due to their one-of-a-kind nature. But this time we had enough to make 6 identical bundles, so they're up in the shop! Enjoy :)

Elissa's Thornbury home

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of visiting the lovely home of one of our customers! Elissa lives in Thornbury with her growing young family, and the windows of 4 of her rooms are adorned with our fabrics as both curtains and blinds! I was so chuffed to see our prints in all these different contexts, and also so glad to meet such a happy customer. It's this sort of thing that gives so much meaning to what we do.

Photos galore below!

Large Birch curtains in the children's room, much loved by the kids!

Kangaroo Paw roman blind in the living room

Flowering Gum curtains in the master bedroom

Leuca roman blind in the spare bedroom

All curtains and blinds made by the lovely folk at Bradley's, of course!

As an added bonus, a friend of Elissa's took all the leftover fabric scraps and turned them into gorgeous cushions and this lovely reupholstered chair! I love that nothing's gone to waste :)

Thanks again so much Elissa for letting me visit your lovely home :)

Customer Talent #3 Interior Goodness

Here we are again - you bunch of clever clogs, you! More amazingness from our beloved customers.

Jacquie's Leuca piano runner, made by Olivia of Moochie Lou

The absolutely divine Leuca in Black & Greylead - loving this colourway - a current favourite at I&S HQ, for sure. We're both making Duvet covers in this colourway. It's too awesome not to.

Megan's Blue Wren clock

Some gorgeous hand embroidered Wrens, gifted to Megan's mother-in-law.

Leigh's Blue Wrens hall stool and Grevillea armchair

Beautifully re-upholstered for Leigh's home by our friends at Clifton Upholstery. Grevillea in Mustard & Greylead is rolling out the door - we can barely keep it on the shelves! It's so lovely when a new design gets such a strong response, so thank you to everyone who has ordered or commented or emailed. We read them all! :)

Toni's Flowering Gum chairs

Such a great pairing, again with some elegant Mustard. Beautiful work, Toni!

Instaspindle

Instagram is great. So often there's a moment in the studio that I just want to capture & share straight away without having to dig out my SLR and d*ck around in Photoshop. So if you're keen to see a little more of what's going on behind the scenes at I&S, you can follow me (@laracameron) or Teegs (@Teegs3) over there. In the meantime here's a few snaps from the last couple of weeks!

Inks & inky aprons; Leuca in Rust & Snow waiting for its second layer; my view every day at the printing table; Blockprint in Persimmon half way there.

Stacey our talented intern prints her stencil cut peacock design; a selection of fabrics ready to be made into a quilt; sewing a new monochromatic duvet cover; custom Large Scale Birch in Moss for curtains

See you on the Instagrams!

Customer Talent #2

Two posts in one week! Wow. That's because you guys are just so darn talented & we had to show you some more fabulous projects. It seems we're going for a bit of a "carry ALL THE things" theme today!

Gina's Blue Wren baby carrier by Elaine from Babies in Space.

The lovely Gina has a very stylish & beautifully made carrier for Eddie! How snuggly does he look? He's even more adorable in real life - cute baby!!

Blue Wren satchel by Kerri from Ella & Lily.

Kerri came all the way from country WA to have morning tea with us one day & pick out the fabrics she was going to use for her gorgeous range...

Ayden's messenger bag

Made by Rachel in our Trams & Bicycles fabric using Nicole Mallalieu's Laptop Bag pattern.
Rachel made this bag for her darling young man before she packed him off to the city to go to Uni! Hope it's proving perfect for those text books & lappy.

Thank you everyone for sending us through your images, again if you've made something lovely with our fabrics please send us a nice image & we may just pop it up in the next Customer Talent post!

Customer Talent

We always have the best of intentions when it comes to blogging about all amazing things our customers do with our fabric. It's one of our favourite things actually - seeing where our textiles end up - after they've been printed and rolled off our table and heat set and packaged up and sent off with the postie. Often it remains a mystery, but from time to time we get a email with a photo and we file it away for one day when we have a spare moment for blogging. Like now.

There's a lot to get through, so I'm just going to show you a couple of things today and will post more later in the week:

Catherine and Daydd's 1960's folding daybed

Catherine and Daydd's 1960's folding daybed

From memory, this Danish daybed has been in Catherine & Daydd's family for quite some generations, and they'd been looking for ages for the perfect fabric to cover it. They ended up requesting a custom print run of our Birch Design in Olive on our 100% Raw Hemp upholstery weight basecloth. The handy thing about the Birch is that it is a "railroaded" print - meaning the trees run from selvedge to selvedge. This means they could cover the length of the couch with no seams!

Susanna's Blinds Dusty Pink Wrens

Susanna's Blinds in Robins Egg Birch (Large Scale)

Susanna's Blinds in Robins Egg Birch (Large Scale)

Another custom order, these fabrics made their way across the ditch to NZ to be made into roman blinds for Susanna's kids rooms. Love how these turned out!

xx Lara.

P.S. - if you have any semi-decent photos of things you've made with our textiles, email them over and we'll attempt to blog about them in a timely fashion!
