Customer Talent #3 Interior Goodness

Here we are again - you bunch of clever clogs, you! More amazingness from our beloved customers.

Jacquie's Leuca piano runner, made by Olivia of Moochie Lou

The absolutely divine Leuca in Black & Greylead - loving this colourway - a current favourite at I&S HQ, for sure. We're both making Duvet covers in this colourway. It's too awesome not to.

Megan's Blue Wren clock

Some gorgeous hand embroidered Wrens, gifted to Megan's mother-in-law.

Leigh's Blue Wrens hall stool and Grevillea armchair

Beautifully re-upholstered for Leigh's home by our friends at Clifton Upholstery. Grevillea in Mustard & Greylead is rolling out the door - we can barely keep it on the shelves! It's so lovely when a new design gets such a strong response, so thank you to everyone who has ordered or commented or emailed. We read them all! :)

Toni's Flowering Gum chairs

Such a great pairing, again with some elegant Mustard. Beautiful work, Toni!

Instaspindle

Instagram is great. So often there's a moment in the studio that I just want to capture & share straight away without having to dig out my SLR and d*ck around in Photoshop. So if you're keen to see a little more of what's going on behind the scenes at I&S, you can follow me (@laracameron) or Teegs (@Teegs3) over there. In the meantime here's a few snaps from the last couple of weeks!

Inks & inky aprons; Leuca in Rust & Snow waiting for its second layer; my view every day at the printing table; Blockprint in Persimmon half way there.

Stacey our talented intern prints her stencil cut peacock design; a selection of fabrics ready to be made into a quilt; sewing a new monochromatic duvet cover; custom Large Scale Birch in Moss for curtains

See you on the Instagrams!

xx Lara.

Customer Talent #2

Two posts in one week! Wow. That's because you guys are just so darn talented & we had to show you some more fabulous projects. It seems we're going for a bit of a "carry ALL THE things" theme today!

Gina's Blue Wren baby carrier by Elaine from Babies in Space.

The lovely Gina has a very stylish & beautifully made carrier for Eddie! How snuggly does he look? He's even more adorable in real life - cute baby!!

Blue Wren satchel by Kerri from Ella & Lily.

Kerri came all the way from country WA to have morning tea with us one day & pick out the fabrics she was going to use for her gorgeous range...

Ayden's messenger bag

Made by Rachel in our Trams & Bicycles fabric using Nicole Mallalieu's Laptop Bag pattern.
Rachel made this bag for her darling young man before she packed him off to the city to go to Uni! Hope it's proving perfect for those text books & lappy.

Thank you everyone for sending us through your images, again if you've made something lovely with our fabrics please send us a nice image & we may just pop it up in the next Customer Talent post!

Customer Talent

We always have the best of intentions when it comes to blogging about all amazing things our customers do with our fabric. It's one of our favourite things actually - seeing where our textiles end up - after they've been printed and rolled off our table and heat set and packaged up and sent off with the postie. Often it remains a mystery, but from time to time we get a email with a photo and we file it away for one day when we have a spare moment for blogging. Like now.

There's a lot to get through, so I'm just going to show you a couple of things today and will post more later in the week:

Catherine and Daydd's 1960's folding daybed

Catherine and Daydd's 1960's folding daybed

From memory, this Danish daybed has been in Catherine & Daydd's family for quite some generations, and they'd been looking for ages for the perfect fabric to cover it. They ended up requesting a custom print run of our Birch Design in Olive on our 100% Raw Hemp upholstery weight basecloth. The handy thing about the Birch is that it is a "railroaded" print - meaning the trees run from selvedge to selvedge. This means they could cover the length of the couch with no seams!

Susanna's Blinds Dusty Pink Wrens

Susanna's Blinds in Robins Egg Birch (Large Scale)

Susanna's Blinds in Robins Egg Birch (Large Scale)

Another custom order, these fabrics made their way across the ditch to NZ to be made into roman blinds for Susanna's kids rooms. Love how these turned out!

xx Lara.

P.S. - if you have any semi-decent photos of things you've made with our textiles, email them over and we'll attempt to blog about them in a timely fashion!

And we're a bit excited about it because not only do they have a bunch of our cushions amongst all the gorgeous mid-century furniture and art, they also have a framed set of Lara's Proteaflora prints. Newness

The shoot - location courtesy of Manysquaremetres

DMT is one of the few events of the year that gives us a swift kick up the proverbial to get things done. All those pesky creative things on our to-do list like "design new prints" and "upholster some chairs" and "do a proper photo shoot". Most days we just tend to find ourselves pushing the squeegee around and using MYOB and replying to emails. And more emails.

So, we're pretty darn excited to finally show you a bit of newness. Prints, cushions, furniture - all captured with some pretty photos. Fun times!

Introducing three new textile prints (that's right, three!). Grevillea Superb, Watercolour Stripe and Blockprint.

New prints on cushions

Grevillea in Mustard 60cm cushion (ceramics by Abby Seymour)

Blockprint 45cm cushions

Here they are as meterage in the shop (now with added spiel!):

Grevillea Superb

Grevillea Superb in Portello

Grevillea Superb in Mustard & Greylead

The spiel: Drawn from life and enlarged in scale, the Grevillea design was conceived when Tegan picked these stems from her front garden on the way to work one morning. Both colours in this design are printed from a single screen - the second colour is printed with the screen rotated 180 degrees and offset by half a repeat.

Watercolour Stripe

Watercolour Stripe in Toffee

Watercolour Stripe in Moss

The spiel: Watercolour stripe is all about celebrating texture and process. Painted watercolour stripes have been scanned, halftoned and enlarged, resulting in a textural print that is beautiful both at a distance and up close. Both colours have been printed from a single screen, with a 180 degree rotation.

Blockprint

Blockprint in Juniper

Blockprint in Persimmon

The spiel: Blockprint pays homage to one of the most simple yet satisfying forms of printmaking - the lino print. Cut, printed, scanned, then turned into a screen, Blockprint combines the beautiful irregularities of linoprinting with the precision of screenprinting.

Hope you like!

Design Made Trade 2012

Whew! Design Made Trade is done and dusted. We had an absolutely fantastic time, but needless to say we're pretty exhausted right now. The studio this morning looked like a bomb site (as did our email inbox) so the day has been spent putting everything right again. It's nice to be home and getting back to usual programming. Thank you to everyone who came down to say hello and showed an interest in our wares!

Despite the fact that it's nigh impossible to take decent photos at trade shows, here are a few snaps of our stand. We're pretty happy with how the stand came together. It's the "Ink & Spindle living room" as we like to call it, although it's much nicer than any of our own living rooms that's for sure!

New prints!

Also a big thank you to Grandfather's Axe for hiring us some of the furniture.

P.S. - our new prints (Grevillea, Watercolour and Blockprint) will be available in our shop this week! Stay tuned for more info!

Just a few new bits and pieces

Happy Winter everyone! If that's possible! It's the season of curling up on couches under woolly blankets with a wheat bag or heading into town rugged up in layers of jackets and scarves and gloves and hats. It's also the season for increased chocolate consumption, as illustrated by all the empty boxes of Old Gold scattered our coffee table this morn. Must stock up, stat!

Anyway, we're just popping in to let you know of some new colourways that have appeared in our shop over the last few days, which hopefully you'll like!

Ginkgo in Black & Greylead

Trams & Bicycles in Snow

Kangaroo Paw in Mustard, Snow & Soft Gold (on a gorgeous raw 100% hemp!)

Wrens in Charcoal

Rooftops in Snow

P.S. - we have an Open Studio coming up next Saturday 9th, more details soon!

Proteaflora - a bit of something different

Proteaflora print series (looking curiously small here, though they're actually quite big!)

A bit of a break from our usual broadcasting - but I've been designing something non textile related! You can read more about these prints over on my personal blog, and they're for sale in the Ink & Spindle shop.

'King Protea' in A1

Hope you like! xx Lara

Windows of Wilkins

After a few solid weeks of printing it was soooo nice to venture out of the studio for a bit of off-site working! Wilkins & Kent are one of our very favourite wholesale customers and they recently asked us to do a window display in each of their stores. This isn't something we've had a huge amount of experience doing but it was a heap of fun.

How gorgeous is that timber love seat? Those W&K men are talented indeed, making all their timber furniture in the workshop out the back of their Brunswick St store.

Thanks to all the lovely folk at Wilkins & Kent for having us! xx
